How inspections work
Call City Hall at 479-846-3038 to schedule an inspection. Building code and construction questions go to Building Official Craig Wood at 479-846-6542 or buildingsafety@prairiegrovear.org.
What the office says about permits
A building permit is required before any new construction, remodel, or addition. The city FAQ lists residential and commercial construction, major remodels, roof replacement, porches, decks, pools, and sheds over 160 square feet as work that needs a permit. Printable building permit and commercial building permit applications are posted in the city forms directory.
Work that may not need a permit
Painting, drywall repair, cabinet and countertop replacement, and other cosmetic changes that do not affect structure or insulation do not require a permit, per the city FAQ.
Contractor registration
The city FAQ states that when work exceeds $2,000 state law requires the contractor to be licensed, and that all new home contractors must be licensed. No separate city contractor registration is published.
Can a homeowner pull their own permit?
The jurisdiction does not publish an owner-builder policy. Many Arkansas cities allow it for an owner-occupied home and some do not. Ask directly.
