How inspections work
The jurisdiction does not publish its inspection request process. Ask when you pull the permit, and ask how much notice they need.
What the office says about permits
The city issues building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, moving, demolition, sign, pool, fire alarm, fire sprinkler, fire kitchen hood and fence permits. All permits except fences and sub-permits are submitted through the eTrakit online portal. No published list of work that does not require a permit was found on the city's site during this research, so nothing is recorded here for water heaters, HVAC changeouts, reroofs, decks, siding, painting or flooring. Fees read directly off the city's Building Permit Fees page: '$1000 and less' is a '$30 minimum fee'; '$1001 to $50,000' is '$30 for the first $1000 plus $5.00 for each additional thousand or fraction thereof'; '$50,001 to $100,000' is '$330 for the first $50,000 plus $4.00 for each additional thousand'; '$100,001 to $500,000' is '$580 for the first $100,000 plus $3.00 for each additional thousand'; '$500,001 and up' is '$2120 for the first $500,000 plus $2.00 for each additional thousand'. Residential demolition permit is $50.
Work that may not need a permit
This jurisdiction does not publish a list of exempt work. Do not assume a small job is exempt; one phone call settles it.
Contractor registration
not yet confirmed as a stated licensing prerequisite. The city does require an account step: 'If you have not previously submitted for a permit on eTrakit, please call our office to obtain a Registered User account. 479-271-3108.' The city's Business Registry page states that businesses, non-profits and any other non-governmental entity with a physical location in Bentonville must register, which leaves out-of-town contractors unaddressed. The permit process is described as including validating licenses and insurance.
Can a homeowner pull their own permit?
The jurisdiction does not publish an owner-builder policy. Many Arkansas cities allow it for an owner-occupied home and some do not. Ask directly.
