Paid training and on-the-job training

Programs where you get hired first and trained second, so you are earning while you learn instead of paying tuition. Many of these are licensed technical roles that are chronically short-staffed in Northwest Arkansas and will train someone with no experience.

Last checked July 26, 2026 · 44 programs · 35 employers · 10 publish what they pay

44 ways to get hired and trained, 36 of them inside NWA

If you cannot stop earning to go to school, this is the page for you. 7 of these are registered apprenticeships, which means a wage from day one and a nationally portable credential at the end. Start with the Pay filter: 10 of 44 publish a wage, and for the rest, what it pays is the first question to ask. Water and wastewater operator roles are worth a special look, because they are licensed, well paid, hire without the license in hand, and almost nobody applies.

Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor (senior role, water licenses obtained after hire)

Beaver Water District

Pay publishedEmployer OJT
EmployerBeaver Water District
TypeEmployer OJT
TradesElectrical, Automation/Controls, Water/Wastewater
WhereLowell, AR
Pay$80,542 minimum / $111,864 midpoint / $143,186 maximum, annual published range
TrainingNot entry level, but the posting requires the hire to obtain Arkansas Grade IV Water Treatment and Distribution licenses within three years of hire, meaning the District brings an electrician in and licenses them on the water side afterward. The careers page states BWD 'offers many benefits, students loan forgiveness, and encourages the personal and professional development of our employees.'
You earnJourneyman Electrician License required at hire; Arkansas Grade IV Water Treatment and Distribution licenses within 3 years; Master Electrician preferred
RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED; minimum 10 years progressively responsible industrial, utility, or commercial electrical operations experience; Journeyman Electrician License; valid driver's license and auto insurance; pre-employment drug screen and background check; 24-hour on-call availability
First stepReview the job posting PDF, then submit a resume through the District's online form at https://forms.fillout.com/t/ngVm1kEm8Lus

Why it matters here: Beaver Water District treats the drinking water for Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville, so this is the top of the local water-trades ladder, and the published range shows what a licensed journeyman electrician with industrial water experience is worth in NWA.

Confirm before you rely on this: Flag clearly as SENIOR, not a training opportunity, or readers will be misled. No closing date on the PDF. Call (479) 756-3651: is it still open, does the District pay for the Grade IV water license coursework and exams, and what exactly is the 'student loan forgiveness' benefit, federal PSLF eligibility because BWD is a public agency, or a District-funded repayment program? Those are very different things; we are not printing the phrase without pinning it down. Also ask whether operator, maintenance, or lab openings are expected soon.

PayPaid during training, but the district states training pay is 'not a driver rate but at minimum wage.' Post-training driver rate is not published.
TrainingThe district runs the federally required Entry Level Driver Training itself, both theory and behind-the-wheel. Applicants pay $50 up front for the CDL packet at the Revenue Office: 'Save your receipt to be reimbursed after you begin working for Springdale Schools.' Training costs and fees are reimbursed once employment begins.
You earnArkansas Class B CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements plus Air Brake
RequirementsPass the written CDL exam (Class B, Air Brake, School Bus, Passenger); complete Entry Level Driver Training; pass pre-employment drug test, DOT physical, criminal background check, and child maltreatment check
First stepOnline application at https://apply.sdale.org or contact the Transportation Office at 1612 E. Emma, Springdale

Why it matters here: A Class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements is a real, portable credential, and Springdale is one of the few local employers that will train you for it and pay you while you learn. Works for a parent wanting school-hours work or as a stepping stone into municipal and utility driving jobs.

Confirm before you rely on this: Call 479-750-8830 for: (1) the actual driver hourly rate after training, (2) how many weeks training runs, (3) whether the 2026-27 posting is live. Confirm the $50 reimbursement is still current policy before printing it.

You earnArkansas Class II Water Distribution Operator's License (3 years); Class A CDL (6 months)
RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent; safety-sensitive position subject to drug testing; CDL within 6 months
First stepEmployment application at https://springdalewaterar.gov/forms/employment-application-form/ or in person at 526 Oak Ave., Springdale

Why it matters here: Collection system work is the sewer side of the utility and is chronically hard to staff statewide. A reader with a clean driving record and no trade background can start above $24/hour.

Confirm before you rely on this: Confirm still open and whether Collection Operator and Rehab Operator are distinct openings or the same crew posted twice. Confirm who pays licensing and CDL costs.

Why it matters here: Water distribution licenses transfer to every other city utility in NWA, so three years here makes a worker hireable in Rogers, Bentonville, Fayetteville, or at Beaver Water District.

Confirm before you rely on this: Confirm still open; confirm the diploma requirement, which appears on sibling postings but not clearly on this one; confirm who pays for license and CDL.

First stepEmployment application at https://springdalewaterar.gov/forms/employment-application-form/ or in person at 526 Oak Ave., Springdale, AR 72762, 8:00 a.m., 4:30 p.m.

Why it matters here: This is the clearest no-experience-required path into a licensed utility trade currently posted anywhere in Washington or Benton County, with a published wage floor above $24/hour. Springdale Water Utilities serves roughly a third of NWA's population.

Confirm before you rely on this: The posting does NOT say who pays for the license coursework, exam fees, or CDL testing. Call 479-751-5751 and ask: (1) does SWU pay for the Class II license training and exam, (2) does SWU pay for CDL school or train in-house, (3) is it still open, (4) what does $24.53 assume for zero experience. Do not call this 'paid training' here until SWU confirms who covers the license cost.

VA Technical Career Field (TCF) Trainee Program

Pay publishedPaid Training Program
EmployerU.S. Department of Veterans Affairs / Veterans Health Administration
TypePaid Training Program
TradesBiomedical Equipment, Facilities, General
WhereFayetteville, AR
PayTrainees start at GS-05; VA states participants 'may acquire the skills and training necessary to qualify for a GS-11 or GS-12 position' by completion. No dollar figures on the program page.
TrainingVA describes '1-2 years of training in a critically identified position with salary, employment benefits, mentoring, and hands-on training.' Each trainee gets a preceptor/mentor and works under progressively less supervision. Roughly 20 career fields, explicitly including 'biomedical equipment support specialist' and 'boiler plant operator/utility system specialist.'
RequirementsNot published on the program page; individual USAJOBS announcements carry the qualification standard for each field
First stepSearch USAJOBS for keyword TCF filtered to Dept. of Veterans Affairs: https://www.usajobs.gov/Search/Results/?d=VA&k=TCF . VA says 'Recruitment begins as early as March for appointments starting between the beginning of May and end of September.' Questions: VHATCFProgramManager@va.gov

Why it matters here: The closest thing to a true paid biomedical apprenticeship a Benton or Washington County reader can reach, and the Fayetteville VA is a VHA facility eligible to host TCF slots. Boiler plant operator is also on the list, which matters for anyone in NWA already doing commercial mechanical work.

Confirm before you rely on this: Could NOT confirm that Fayetteville, AR has a TCF slot in the current cycle, USAJOBS search-result pages are JavaScript-rendered and returned empty, and data.usajobs.gov is blocked here. Email VHATCFProgramManager@va.gov or call the Fayetteville VA: has VHSO Ozarks ever hosted a TCF biomedical or boiler plant trainee, is a slot expected next cycle, and what is the actual GS-05 figure for this locality. Do NOT tell readers a Fayetteville TCF slot exists.

TrainingThese are regular full-time jobs, not a program, learning is on the job. The notable part for readers: VA's own announcements state 'no specific length of training' is required and list NO education requirement. Qualification is judged on demonstrated ability (equipment assembly/installation/repair, blueprint and specification reading, tool use). VA also states volunteer experience counts toward qualification.
RequirementsU.S. citizenship, background/suitability investigation, Selective Service registration if applicable, health-care-personnel influenza vaccination compliance, REAL ID-compliant identification. No degree, no license, no apprenticeship completion required on the announcements read.
First stepUSAJOBS only. Watch https://www.va.gov/fayetteville-arkansas-health-care/work-with-us/ and search USAJOBS for Fayetteville, Arkansas + Dept. of Veterans Affairs.

Why it matters here: A rare case of an NWA employer publishing an exact hourly range in public, and it sets a real floor for what a maintenance mechanic or pipefitter is worth locally. It also shows a federal trades job in Fayetteville with no degree requirement at all.

Confirm before you rely on this: Both verified postings are CLOSED, Maintenance Mechanic WG-9 (usajobs.gov/job/846494100) and Pipefitter WG-10 (usajobs.gov/job/846475900), each open Sept 19-26, 2025. The wage figures are real and Fayetteville-specific but from 2025 schedules and will be out of date. We do not present either as open. Per eCFR, Benton and Washington counties sit in the TULSA Federal Wage System wage area; the current appropriated-fund schedule must be pulled from DCPAS (wageandsalary.dcpas.osd.mil) before quoting any hourly number.

Pay$18.61 to $20.51 per hour
TrainingNone published. A straight job posting with a published wage range, not a training program. The county's list does not state CDL requirements, education requirements, or any employer-paid licensing.
First stepWashington County job postings page

Why it matters here: Washington County road crews maintain the rural roads and bridges outside city limits, and the county publishes its wage range openly, $18.61 to $20.51 an hour is a useful benchmark for readers comparing heavy-equipment offers locally.

Confirm before you rely on this: EXPIRED, posted deadline was 07/12/2026, two weeks ago. Do not run as an open job. The county's 'Sheriff's Maintenance Technician' ($23.71/hr) also closed 07/22/2026. Washington County appears to leave expired postings up, so re-check every dated item there before printing. Call HR to ask whether Operator I is being reposted, whether it is a rolling opening, whether a CDL is required at hire or obtained after, and whether the county pays for CDL testing. The job list published no HR phone number.

The roster shows 968 active apprentices, by far the largest active count of any NWA-located entry.
You earnWIOA-approved registered apprenticeship (electrical)
RequirementsNot published on the state roster
First stepNot published on the state roster, needs direct contact

Why it matters here: With 968 active apprentices and a Rogers address, this appears to be the largest electrical apprenticeship pipeline physically located in Benton County, potentially the most important electrical training entry point in NWA and one most readers have never heard of.

Confirm before you rely on this: unconfirmed: from the DWS roster, NOT the organization's own website, which was never located before this research pass ended. Before printing anything: find and load the organization's own site, confirm it still operates, get the Rogers address, phone, tuition, class schedule, and employer-sponsorship requirement. TrainingDOL-certified, NCCER-accredited apprenticeship. Class one night per week while working full time for your employer. Published lengths: Electrician 4 years, Plumber 4 years, HVAC 2 years. ACEF lists 12 trades statewide, but its education page shows posted class schedules only for electrical, carpentry, HVAC and plumbing, the other nine read 'CLASS SCHEDULE TO BE DETERMINED.' Evening plus online/virtual options.
You earnU.S. Department of Labor certified completion; NCCER credentials
Requirements18 or older with a high school diploma or GED. Most trades require you to already be employed by a sponsoring contractor. HVAC is the published exception, you may enroll as a 'craft professional (no employer required)' and pay your own fees.
First stepCall (501) 372-1590 to register if already employed in your trade, or apply online at myacef.org to request help finding a sponsoring employer.

Why it matters here: The largest construction apprenticeship pipeline in the state, with a physical training center in Springdale, so a Washington or Benton County worker can reach journeyman-level electrical, plumbing or HVAC credentials without leaving NWA or taking on tuition debt.

Confirm before you rely on this: The Springdale address and local phone are NOT published anywhere, myacef.org/locations/ and /contact/ both 404, and I confirmed the ACEF homepage lists only the Little Rock address (4421 West 61st Street). Tuition is not on ACEF's own site; a ~$1,000/year figure comes from an Arkansas Money & Politics article dated Nov 19, 2025, not from ACEF. Call (501) 372-1590 for: Springdale campus address, exact 2026-27 tuition and what it covers, which trades actually run in Springdale, and whether the 'Spring 2026' enrollment banner is out of date.

You earnWIOA-approved registered apprenticeship
RequirementsNot published on the state roster
First stepNot published for the Siloam Springs site. ACEF main line: (501) 372-1590.

Why it matters here: This is the ONLY registered Industrial Maintenance Mechanic apprenticeship found anywhere in Benton or Washington county, and it sits in Siloam Springs, the same town as Simmons Foods, exactly where plant maintenance and refrigeration demand is concentrated. Potentially the most valuable single lead in this whole batch if it is real.

Confirm before you rely on this: unconfirmed and there is a DIRECT SOURCE CONFLICT. This comes from the DWS roster only. ACEF's own education page lists nine locations and Siloam Springs is NOT among them, and we separately confirmed ACEF's homepage lists only the Little Rock address. Resolve before relying on it. You earnNCCER Core; up to 80 credit hours toward a registered apprenticeship
Requirements17 or older, valid U.S. driver's license and Social Security number, legally authorized to work in the U.S., must pass a background check. No employer sponsor required.
First stepOnline enrollment form at abcark.org. The page states 'Enrollment will open July 2026' for the 2026-2027 school year.

Why it matters here: The rare NWA trade entry point that does NOT require you to already have a trade job, good for a career changer or recent grad who wants credit hours banked before a contractor hires them. Enrollment opening this month makes it timely for a late-July issue.

Confirm before you rely on this: Highest-urgency item to re-check. The page says enrollment opens July 2026 but gives no exact open date, no close date, and no Springdale contact. The $100 enrollment fee is published, confirm it still applies. Call ABC Arkansas for the Springdale class address, enrollment open and close dates, whether plumbing-only still holds for 2026-27, and a local contact.

Why it matters here: A second DOL-registered electrical and plumbing ladder holding class in Springdale, at a published cost low enough that many NWA contractors cover it for a promising helper. The daytime one-week-a-month format suits crews that cannot spare a worker every week.

Confirm before you rely on this: Cost is published as $450/semester for ABC members and $550/semester non-members, books included, confirm the 2026-27 rate and whether it is per semester or per year. First stephttps://www.applitrack.com/bentonville/onlineapp/ , or contact the Transportation Department directly (Director Jason Salmons, Assistant Director Johnny Embry)

Why it matters here: Bentonville is the largest district in Benton County and is actively hiring drivers, so if it mirrors Springdale's reimbursed CDL training this becomes a strong Benton County counterpart to that item.

Confirm before you rely on this: unconfirmed: the district publishes the opening but none of the training terms. Call 479.254.5000 and ask Transportation: do you provide and pay for Entry Level Driver Training and the CDL packet, is the $50 permit fee reimbursed as in Springdale, what is the training pay rate versus the driver rate, how long is training, and what background checks apply. First stepView open positions via Crossland's recruiting portal (recruiting2.ultipro.com), submit the 'Apprenticeship General Interest Form,' or call 1-800-674-6147

Why it matters here: Crossland self-performs concrete, steel and carpentry with 700+ craft employees and staffs a Rogers office, so an apprentice hired here can expect to stay on Benton County jobsites. Ironworker training is nearly impossible to find locally otherwise.

Confirm before you rely on this: Program DURATION and WAGE PROGRESSION are explicitly not published, and Crossland does not say whether it is DOL-registered or an internal NCCER track only, do NOT call it 'registered' here until confirmed. Cost to the employee is not disclosed. Why it matters here: A commercial roofing contractor with a standing Springdale branch that publishes tuition reimbursement and a foreman track, a realistic move-up path for a Washington County reader already doing labor work, and the Spanish application matters for a large share of the local roofing workforce.

Confirm before you rely on this: No wages, no program length, no credential, and the tuition reimbursement has no stated cap or eligibility period. Why it matters here: The honest local read: NWA's biggest trucking employer will pay you as an employee from day one for six weeks of supervised training, but it will not put you through CDL school. Pair this with the Springdale Schools CDL item, which is the free route to the license.

Confirm before you rely on this: No pay figure, no minimum age, no experience minimum beyond recent CDL graduation. Call J.B. Critically, training occurs 'during their workday and earning pay raises as they progress.' Positions named: Tractor Technician, Trailer Technician, Mobile Technician, Road Maintenance Coordinator. Medical/dental/vision after 30 days; sign-on bonuses for qualified candidates; company-paid short- and long-term disability.
First stepSearch technician roles at https://careers.jbhunt.com/jobs and filter to Arkansas

Why it matters here: J.B. Hunt is headquartered in Lowell, in Benton County, and runs maintenance shops across its network. A published pay-raise-per-module training ladder for diesel techs at an NWA-headquartered Fortune 500 employer is exactly the 'earn while you learn' pattern, and it is the strongest corporate technician program I could verify locally.

Confirm before you rely on this: Almost every number is missing. No wages, no number of modules, no program length, no tool allowance, no ASE reimbursement, no entry requirements, and the page does NOT name Lowell or any Arkansas shop. Call J.B. Hunt recruiting and ask: how many modules and how long, what the raise is per module, whether they hire techs with no experience or require a diesel program certificate, whether tools and ASE testing are paid, and which NWA locations have technician openings. We are not printing 'apprenticeship', J.B. Hunt does not use that word for this program.

First stepApply at https://careers.mercy.net/jobs and filter to Rogers/Bentonville, AR. Benefits detail: https://careers.mercy.net/benefits

Why it matters here: Mercy's Rogers hospital is a major Benton County employer, and PSLF eligibility plus a 6-month tuition-reimbursement waiting period is a genuinely usable path for someone who takes a facilities or support job first and studies a technical program second.

Confirm before you rely on this: NO dollar amounts published, no annual cap, no per-credit rate, no scholarship value. Also unverified: whether 'work-related' is read broadly enough to cover HVAC, electrical, industrial maintenance, or biomedical technology coursework for a plant-operations employee versus clinical degrees only. Why it matters here: Multi-Craft is a large Springdale-based commercial and industrial mechanical contractor and it is hiring apprentice-titled plumbing and HVACR roles right now in Washington County, a real local entry point even though the training behind the title is undocumented.

Confirm before you rely on this: Verified only that the OPENINGS exist on Multi-Craft's own portal. Multi-Craft's main website (multi-craft.net) blocks automated fetching, so any craft-training program described there could not be read, the biggest single hole in this research given Multi-Craft's reputation for in-house training. Call Multi-Craft HR: is there a structured apprenticeship, is it DOL-registered or NCCER-based, do they sponsor apprentices through ACEF or ABC/ACTA in Springdale, what is the apprentice starting wage and raise schedule, do they pay for the classroom portion, and are millwright and electrical apprentice roles hired at other times of year.

TrainingFour-year program, established 1973, using NCCER curriculum plus hands-on work under experienced carpenters. Classes meet one evening per week for nine months a year, late August through May. Nabholz lists Rogers as one of four class locations with Conway, Little Rock and Jonesboro. Open to both Nabholz employees and the general public; has produced over 160 journeyman carpenters.
You earnDiploma from the U.S. Department of Labor and Nabholz University; NCCER curriculum
RequirementsNot published in detail. Open to non-employees; applicants must complete an application before classes begin.
First stepEmail CarpenterTraining@nabholz.com or call Chris Kotter at 479.659.7829. Nabholz NWA office: 3301 North 2nd Street, Rogers, AR 72756.

Why it matters here: One of very few DOL-recognized carpentry apprenticeships that actually holds class in Benton County, and it is open to the public, a framer working for someone else can enroll without being a Nabholz employee. Cost is textbooks only.

Confirm before you rely on this: Cost is published as textbooks only, about $165 for non-employees and $50 for Nabholz staff, confirm for 2026-27. SOURCE CONFLICT: Nabholz's own page lists Rogers, but the third-party Arkansas apprenticeship listing (natf.us) names only Little Rock and Conway. Confirm with Chris Kotter that the Rogers section is running this fall, plus the class address, night, and application deadline for the late-August start.

Students learn rough and finish carpentry, concrete placement, form building, door and hardware installation, assisting with plumbing and electrical, painting, and insulation. Flexible part-time after school release (typically 11 a.m.), or full-time on off-days; full time during summer. Nabholz's page features a 'Springdale High School Apprenticeship Signing Day.'
You earnOSHA 10 required to enter; further credentials not published
Requirements16-18 years old, enrolled and in good standing with their school, must have completed OSHA 10 certification
First stepApply through Nabholz website job openings 'just like with any other job.' Students are encouraged to work with their vo-ag teacher or contact Sheila Burroughs, Director of Workforce Development, sheila.pierson@nabholz.com.

Why it matters here: Directly relevant to Springdale and Rogers families, Nabholz's own page shows a Springdale High School signing day, so this is an active NWA school partnership, not a statewide abstraction. Strong item for parents of a 16-18 year old who is not college-bound.

Confirm before you rely on this: Pay rate and program length are NOT published. The Springdale High School reference is an example, not a current-year partnership list. Ask Sheila Burroughs which NWA districts are signed up for 2026-27, the hourly range, number of slots, application window, and who covers the OSHA 10 cost.

First stepContact Tina Davis at 501.505.5948. Nabholz NWA Industrial Services: 307 W Stribling Dr, Rogers, AR 72756.

Why it matters here: Millwright and industrial maintenance work at NWA poultry and food plants is among the best-paid trainable work in the region, and Nabholz runs its industrial services division out of Rogers.

Confirm before you rely on this: Nabholz publishes that the program EXISTS with a 3+1 year structure but publishes NO location, cost, credential, wage, or entry requirement, and does NOT say classes run in Rogers. We do not imply an NWA millwright class exists until confirmed. Ask Tina Davis where classes meet, whether NWA Industrial Services takes apprentices, whether it is DOL-registered, cost, and whether non-employees can enroll as in carpentry.

TrainingORT's careers page states it is hiring and lists 'Paid training' as an employee benefit alongside medical, dental, vision, employer-paid life insurance, and enrollment in the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System. It describes opportunities 'for individuals at every stage,' naming driver/operator roles, technician positions, and office roles. This is a careers page with a paid-training benefit line, not a named or structured apprenticeship.
First stepApply online through the ORT careers page or in person at 2423 E. Robinson Avenue, Springdale, AR 72764. Email ORTinformation@ozark.org.

Why it matters here: ORT is the public bus system for Benton and Washington counties and enrolls employees in APERS, a state pension, unusual for an entry-level driving or wrenching job in NWA. The technician side is a genuine diesel maintenance opportunity.

Confirm before you rely on this: The page confirms paid training exists but publishes no wage, no CDL requirement detail, and no current job titles. Call (479) 361-8741: what operator and technician positions are open now, starting hourly rate for each, whether ORT pays for CDL school or trains in-house for the Class B passenger CDL, whether a CDL is required at hire, and what 'paid training' covers and for how long. First stepOzarks Electric's own ApplicantPro portal at https://ozarksecc.applicantpro.com/jobs/ . Careers questions to careers@ozarksecc.com.

Why it matters here: Ozarks Electric is the Fayetteville-headquartered co-op serving much of Washington County, and the 'Apprentice I' title in its own job system indicates a numbered apprentice progression, a genuine local entry point into the trade.

Confirm before you rely on this: This is a job posting, not a documented program, and it is currently CLOSED, the Ozarks ApplicantPro posting (job 3645529) returns 'THIS POSITION HAS BEEN CLOSED' and the portal now reads 'Sorry, we have no current job openings.' The Ozarks careers page describes departments and benefits (including tuition assistance) but publishes NO apprenticeship description, no step structure, and no wages. You earnASU-Newport High Voltage Lineman Technology certificate (10-month program)
RequirementsGraduating high school seniors and recent graduates up to two years post-graduation, from high schools within the Ozarks Electric service territory. Requires online application, one letter of recommendation, and most recent transcript.
First stepOnline application on the Ozarks Electric lineman scholarship page. For the 2026 cycle, applications opened Dec 1, 2025 and closed Apr 1, 2026; recipients notified mid-April.

Why it matters here: The most concrete lineman pipeline aimed specifically at Benton and Washington county students, a local co-op paying full tuition for a 10-month lineman certificate. Eligibility is tied to attending a high school inside the Ozarks Electric territory.

Confirm before you rely on this: The Apr 1, 2026 deadline has passed, so this is CLOSED for the current cycle, write it as a 'mark your calendar, applications open in December' item. Call and Confirm: (1) will the next window open Dec 1, 2026 with an Apr 1, 2027 deadline (my Dec 1 assumption is inferred from the prior cycle, not yet confirmed), (2) the dollar value, (3) whether a recipient is preferred for an Apprentice Line Tech opening afterward, (4) exactly which NWA school districts are inside the territory. This is a scholarship, NOT a paid apprenticeship, do not confuse them.

First stepOzarksGo's own ApplicantPro portal, linked from https://www.ozarksgo.net/careers . Careers email careers@ozarksecc.com.

Why it matters here: OzarksGo is building and maintaining an all-fiber network across Northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma out of Fayetteville, making it one of the few local employers hiring splicers and fiber techs at scale, a real trade path for readers who don't want to climb poles.

Confirm before you rely on this: NO fiber technician training program is published anywhere and there is currently NO fiber field opening. OzarksGo's own ApplicantPro portal showed only three Fayetteville openings, Cybersecurity Analyst I, Network Engineer, NOC Analyst II, all office/IT. Fiber Optic Technician I, Fiber Optic Drop Technician, and Installation Technician titles appeared only on LinkedIn and ZipRecruiter, which do not qualify, and looked out of date. Also, the portal returned posting dates AFTER today (04-Aug-2026, 07-Aug-2026), so treat its dates as unreliable and re-read directly. Call 479-684-4900: is there paid fiber splicing or installation training for new hires, is FOA CFOT or any certification required or provided, starting wage, and when do fiber tech openings post.

TrainingPlainly: no published training program was confirmed. Pratt & Whitney operates an aerospace facility in Springdale and recruits Machinist Technician roles there, but no Pratt & Whitney or RTX-owned page describing a training program, apprenticeship, or no-experience entry path could be loaded.
RequirementsUnknown, listings could not be read
First stepcareers.rtx.com (search Springdale, Arkansas) or jobs.pw.utc.com

Why it matters here: Aerospace machining in Springdale is the highest-skill advanced manufacturing employer confirmed in the two counties, and precision machining is a trade NWA readers rarely hear about as a local option.

Confirm before you rely on this: This one is unconfirmed and the sourcing is thin. Pratt & Whitney's own job board blocks automated fetching; careers.rtx.com search returned HTTP 403; and a specific Springdale machinist posting returned HTTP 410 GONE, meaning EXPIRED, do not cite it. The Springdale presence itself comes from Arkansas Business, a secondary source. Load careers.rtx.com in a browser, confirm the Springdale site is hiring, and ask recruiting whether any trainee or no-experience machinist entry path exists and what it pays. CRITICAL: do NOT attach the Arkansas Business aviation wage figures ($33/hour entry, $70-$80/hour experienced) to this employer, those describe SAU Tech graduates in south Arkansas.

TrainingSimmons' own careers site references 'on-the-job training and robust professional development' and educational financial aid supporting learning 'from GED to PhD.' It does NOT name a maintenance technician apprenticeship, an ammonia refrigeration track, or an electrical/automation program. Simmons runs same-day hiring centers, including one in Siloam Springs. Published benefits include comprehensive family medical care at no cost to covered employees, free generic prescriptions, dental, vision, life, and 401(k).
RequirementsNot published
First stepCareers portal via workatsimmons.com, or walk into the Siloam Springs hiring center for same-day hiring

Why it matters here: Simmons is the anchor employer in Siloam Springs and the same-day hiring center means a Benton County reader can walk in and be hired the same day. The no-cost family medical coverage is an unusually strong published benefit worth flagging on its own.

Confirm before you rely on this: The 'GED to PhD' education aid is published with NO dollar amount, eligibility period, or approved-program list, we do not quote a figure. No refrigeration or maintenance training program is published; treat that as unconfirmed, not absent. The specific job board URL could not be resolved (workatsimmons.com/careers/ returned 404), so no individual postings were read. Call the Siloam Springs hiring center: is there a maintenance or refrigeration training track for people with no experience, do you sponsor apprentices through ACEF, what does education assistance actually pay, and what are current maintenance starting wages.

Tyson's careers landing and benefits pages describe only Upward Academy. Tyson's Workday portals returned recruitment marketing copy only, listings are JavaScript-rendered and did not load, so no NWA maintenance or refrigeration postings could be read.
RequirementsUnknown, listings could not be read
First steptysonfoods.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/TSN, or /TSN5 for production roles

Why it matters here: Ammonia refrigeration and industrial maintenance techs at NWA poultry plants are among the highest-paid trainable roles in the two counties, so whether Tyson trains from scratch or only hires experienced techs is a genuinely valuable question for local readers.

Confirm before you rely on this: unconfirmed: the Workday portal did not render and no Tyson-owned page documents such a program. We do not repeat the 2022/2023 Tyson press-release claims; those are three to four years old and were deliberately excluded. Also note we attempted Tyson's Workday JSON API directly by curl and the network gateway refused the host, so this is a hard technical wall, not a lack of effort. Call 479-290-5000 and ask: is there a maintenance or refrigeration technician training program open to candidates with no experience, is there an internal transfer path from production to maintenance, is any of it a DOL-registered apprenticeship, and what is the starting wage for a maintenance trainee at NWA plants.

You earnProfessional certificates and college degrees via partner institutions
RequirementsBenefit-eligible Tyson team member with 31 days of service
First stepHire on with Tyson first. Job search: tysonfoods.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/TSN (all openings), /TSN5 (production roles).

Why it matters here: Tyson is headquartered in Springdale and is one of the largest employers in Washington and Benton counties, so a production worker on the line can get a certificate paid for after roughly a month on the job.

Confirm before you rely on this: Confirm the $5,250/year cap and day-31 eligibility for 2026, and confirm which Guild catalog certificates are trade-relevant (industrial maintenance, refrigeration, electrical) versus business or general education, Tyson does not publish the catalog. Also confirm hourly plant team members at NWA facilities are 'benefit-eligible' for this specific benefit. State here that this is a tuition benefit, NOT a maintenance apprenticeship.

Separately, Walmart Academy is described as offering 'job-specific retail training and leadership courses.' Walmart's site also states 120,000 U.S. associates have participated in Live Better U.
You earnDegrees and skills certificates through partner institutions; specific catalog not published on the pages I could load
RequirementsDescribed as available to 'field associates.' Specific hours-worked or tenure eligibility is not published on the pages I could load.
First stepHire on with Walmart first, then enroll through Live Better U. Careers: https://careers.walmart.com . People Services: 800-421-1362.

Why it matters here: Walmart is the largest employer in Benton County by a wide margin, so this is the single widest-reach education benefit in NWA, and 100% of tuition and books is a materially better deal than the old $1-a-day framing many readers still remember.

Confirm before you rely on this: The big open question here: we could not load a dedicated Live Better U page, corporate.walmart.com/purpose/opportunity/education, careers.walmart.com/benefits, careers.walmart.com/private-fleet and one.walmart.com's LBU page all returned 404. The '100% of tuition and books' and '60+ programs' language comes from Walmart's own supply-chain careers page, which is legitimate but thin. before relying on it, confirm with Walmart People Services (800-421-1362): eligibility hours and tenure, whether part-time associates qualify, and CRITICALLY whether the 60+ program catalog includes any skilled-trade certificates (HVAC, refrigeration, industrial maintenance, electrical) or is limited to business, tech, health and general education. We do not imply trades programs are included until confirmed.

TrainingThis entry exists as a correction. Walmart's own driver careers page requires a 'Minimum of 30 months (2.5 years) experience working in a full-time Class A tractor/trailer driving position in the previous 3 years.' No Fleet Development Program, driver training curriculum, or program length is published on that page. Walmart references Walmart Academy generally but with no driver program detail.
You earnInterstate Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement required at hire
Requirements30 months Class A experience in the previous 3 years; no more than two moving violations in the last three years; no serious traffic violations or preventable accidents in three years; no preventable DOT recordable accidents in ten years; must live within 250 miles of the assigned facility or relocate within 90 days
First stepSee open roles at careers.walmart.com; contact drivingjobs@wal-mart.com

Why it matters here: Walmart's private fleet is one of the best driving jobs in the country and it is headquartered here, but as published it is a destination job, not an entry point. An NWA reader without a CDL should get the license elsewhere first, the Springdale Schools route is free.

Confirm before you rely on this: The widely-reported Walmart 'Fleet Development Program' that trains supply-chain associates into drivers is NOT documented on Walmart's current driver careers page. We are not printing it. If you want to run it, call drivingjobs@wal-mart.com and ask whether an internal associate-to-driver training program still exists, whether it is open to NWA DC associates, and what it pays during training. Report it only if Walmart confirms.

There is no documented Walmart trades apprenticeship on any page I could load.
RequirementsNot published on the maintenance careers page; requirements appear only in individual job postings
First stepSearch technician roles via https://careers.walmart.com and filter to Arkansas locations

Why it matters here: Walmart runs distribution centers, a fleet operation and a large facilities footprint across Benton County, and 'Multi-Skilled Technician' is genuinely high-value automation and industrial maintenance work. But readers should know Walmart does not publish a training path into it.

Confirm before you rely on this: We do not repeat older press coverage about Walmart technician training initiatives, nothing on Walmart's current careers pages supports a structured trades apprenticeship, and we could not load the job search to read individual postings. Call or visit a Walmart DC HR office and ask: do you hire Multi-Skilled or Facility Technicians with no experience, is there a leveled technician training ladder with pay steps, do you pay for EPA 608, ammonia, or PLC training, and what is the starting wage at NWA facilities.

You earnValid driver's license required. The posting seen was a level III role preferring 6+ years with medical equipment in a Biomed Department or equivalent.
RequirementsUnknown for entry level. Whether Washington Regional hires and trains a BMET I from scratch is unconfirmed.
First stepWashington Regional's Paycom careers portal via https://www.wregional.com/main/open-positions

Why it matters here: Washington Regional runs its own in-house Biomedical department in Fayetteville, the only NWA hospital biomed shop I could document by name. For a local reader with military electronics training, this is the most concrete civilian landing spot in Washington County.

Confirm before you rely on this: This one is unconfirmed, and it matters. Washington Regional's Paycom portal is blocked by robots.txt and at the network layer here. The education language above came from a syndicated copy on the Northwest Arkansas Council job board (talent.careersnwa.com), a THIRD-PARTY board, and that posting is already closed and 6+ months old. Includes mentorship. Graduates enter the AEP Apprenticeship Program.
You earnNot a standalone credential, CAST preparation and entry into the AEP Apprenticeship Program
RequirementsWomen interested in line work; specific eligibility not published. AEP's page says it is offered across its 11-state territory.
First stepInterest form on AEP's Women in Linework page

Why it matters here: Lineman work is one of the best-paying trades in Benton and Washington counties and one of the least diverse, so a paid, no-experience-required pre-apprenticeship would be genuinely notable, IF Arkansas is included, which is not yet confirmed.

Confirm before you rely on this: Do not rely on without confirming two things. First, the page appears out of date, its Upcoming Events section still lists 'TBD - 2023' for an AEP Ohio climbing clinic, so there may be no active cohort. Second, AEP says '11-state territory' but never names the states, and neither the page nor the PDF mentions SWEPCO or Arkansas, no NWA-accessible cohort confirmed. Also note the six-week versus four-week-plus-clinics discrepancy; we are not printing a length. Ask AEP recruiting: is a 2026-27 cohort scheduled, does SWEPCO's Arkansas territory participate, where are the in-person clinics, and what is the stipend.

Why it matters here: For an NWA reader with Navy, Air Force or Army electronics or BMET training, this is documented proof that a six-figure-ceiling technical career is open without going back for a degree. It is the honest answer to 'can I get into biomed from scratch', military training yes, civilian from zero, no.

Why it matters here: SWEPCO, an AEP company, is the investor-owned utility serving parts of the Fayetteville and Springdale area, so an AEP line mechanic career is a realistic local option alongside the co-ops, but the apprenticeship is administered at the AEP corporate level, not locally.

Confirm before you rely on this: Weakest of the utility findings. The program sits alongside the division's FHWA On-the-Job Training program, but ARDOT does not publish the program mechanics.
You earnCommercial Driver's License (class and endorsements not published)
First stepSubmit the JotForm application linked on the ARDOT CDL Training Application page before the stated July 31 close, or contact the coordinator directly

Why it matters here: The most time-sensitive item in this batch, the stated deadline is five days out. A CDL is the fastest credential upgrade available to an NWA laborer, and ARDOT maintains highway crews out of Districts 4 and 9 serving Benton and Washington counties.

Confirm before you rely on this: Almost nothing about this program is published, so we are not printing specifics. Call Kristi Marshall at (501) 569-2288 and Confirm: (1) that 'July 31' means July 31, 2026 and not a out of date page, the page does NOT state the year, (2) whether training is free to the participant and who funds it, (3) whether participants are paid while training, (4) whether NWA residents are eligible or it is restricted to certain districts or DBE/OJT-eligible individuals, (5) which CDL school delivers it and where, (6) program length, (7) whether ARDOT or a contractor hires graduates. If the year cannot be confirmed, ignore the date shown there.

TrainingA Federal Highway Administration program ARDOT describes as designed to 'increase the pool of qualified women, minorities, and disadvantaged individuals in the highway construction industry,' providing 'hands-on training programs,' 'skills training,' and supportive resources. Trainees are placed with highway contractors working ARDOT projects rather than employed by ARDOT. Entry is via an 'OJT Referral Interest Questionnaire' submitted online.
RequirementsTargeted at women, minorities, and disadvantaged individuals seeking highway construction careers. Specific eligibility criteria are not published.
First stepSubmit the OJT Referral Interest Questionnaire linked from the program page, or contact the program specialist

Why it matters here: There is steady ARDOT-funded highway work in Benton and Washington counties, and this is the intake door for getting placed on those crews with training attached rather than being hired cold. It is an always-open referral list rather than a posted job, so a reader can get in the queue any time.

Confirm before you rely on this: ARDOT publishes the purpose but none of the terms. Confirm with Kristi Marshall: which trade classifications are covered, whether trainees earn contractor wage rates or a training rate, program length in hours or weeks, whether NWA-area contractors are currently taking referrals, and whether eligibility is strictly limited to the targeted groups. Do not state a wage or duration.

TrainingAECC/AECI's own safety programs page states the organization will 'Administer the NLC Lineman Training Program' and 'Offer formal certification for operators for digger derrick and bucket trucks.' No program length, curriculum, step structure, or participating-co-op list is published.
You earnDigger derrick and bucket truck operator certification; NLC lineman training (credential not described)
First stepAECC/AECI jobs portal at careers.aecc.com. Career fields listed include Powerline Maintenance and Craft and Trade; benefits include Educational Assistance.

Why it matters here: AECC/AECI is the statewide generation-and-transmission and services arm for Arkansas co-ops and appears to run the shared lineman training and truck-operator certification local crews rely on. It has also posted a Journeyman Line Worker role in Lowell, in Benton County.

Confirm before you rely on this: Thin. The AECC careers page mentions NO apprenticeship; the only training reference on the entire site is that one line. CRITICALLY, we could not confirm that Ozarks Electric or Carroll Electric send apprentices through AECC/AECI training, we are not printing that connection. Call (501) 570-2200: what is the NLC Lineman Training Program, how long, is it an apprenticeship or supplemental safety training, which distribution co-ops participate (specifically Ozarks and Carroll), where is it held, and can an individual enroll or must an employer send them. Easily confused: 'AECC Career School' at arecc.org in Little Rock and Pine Bluff is a completely unrelated vocational school (CNA, medical assistant, pharmacy tech) with no lineman program. do not confuse it with aecc.com.

TrainingCarroll's own apprentice job description language states the role is 'To set out degrees of apprenticeship from New Apprentice through Apprentice 3 (Fourth Year), defining the scope of responsibilities', indicating a four-year, four-step progression. No curriculum, school, or step detail is published.
First stepCurrent openings on the Career Opportunities page at https://www.carrollecc.com/careers

Why it matters here: Carroll Electric serves Benton and Washington counties along with Carroll County and southwest Missouri, and has historically posted apprentice line roles at NWA locations including Gravette and Bentonville, not just Berryville. It employs close to 300 people, so apprentice turnover is real.

Confirm before you rely on this: NO current apprentice opening, listings showed only three Berryville office roles. The four-year progression language came from Carroll's own EXPIRED postings (New Apprentice Lineman, Bentonville; New Apprentice Crewman, Gravette), both marked 'no longer active,' and the full posting body could not be read. Carroll's 'Compensation, Benefits, and Values' PDF publishes NO wage figures. Call 800-432-9720 ext. 1333: confirm the four-step structure, starting wage and each step's wage, DOL registration, which NWA districts hire apprentices (Gravette, Bentonville, Siloam Springs, Huntsville), CDL or pre-hire lineman school requirement, and the typical month apprentice openings post.

TrainingFlintco's craft careers page states it provides 'NCCER training and certification support' and a 'Superintendent development program.' That is training SUPPORT, not a described apprenticeship, no curriculum, length, cost, or wage progression published. Craft roles listed: Equipment Operators, Pipefitters, Solar Installers, Concrete Finishers, Carpenters, Skilled Laborers. Benefits: medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and vacation, 401(k) with match.
You earnNCCER certifications (support only; program not described)
RequirementsNot published. Applicants must supply contact information, a resume, and relocation/travel availability.
First stepApply through the recruiting portal linked from https://flintco.com/careers/craft-professionals/

Why it matters here: Flintco is a significant commercial builder on NWA projects and NCCER certification is portable credentialing a worker keeps for life, but readers should know the Arkansas office city is not stated, so local hiring is not yet confirmed.

Confirm before you rely on this: IMPORTANT: Flintco lists 'Arkansas' as an office without naming Springdale or Fayetteville, so we are not printing an NWA office location. No phone published; the application email rendered as a masked placeholder. Confirm via flintco.com contact page: the actual NWA office city and phone, whether craft hiring is done locally, whether NCCER training is paid for and on company time, and starting craft wages. Flintco Industrial (flintcoindustrial.com) runs a separate craft and internship track that was not reviewed.

These are leads, not job offers. Postings close, wages change, and a program that was open last month may be filled. Every card links to the employer's own page so you can check before you drive anywhere. Where an entry says a detail is not published, that is because the employer does not publish it, and the card tells you what to ask. Nothing here is a paid listing and no employer paid to be included.
